Exploring Dog Meditation

Writer: Miranda JansenMiranda Jansen

In the world of holistic pet care, one practice stands out for its gentle approach and focus on honoring the autonomy of our furry friends: Dog Meditation. Rooted in the Let Animals Lead® method, Dog Meditation is a powerful tool for enhancing the well-being of our canine companions.

What is Dog Meditation?

Dog Meditation, as practiced through the Let Animals Lead® method, is a form of energy healing that promotes relaxation, stress relief, and overall balance in dogs. Unlike traditional Reiki sessions where humans direct the energy flow, Dog Meditation empowers the dog to take the lead. This approach respects the innate wisdom of animals, allowing them to guide the session according to their needs and preferences.

Why Let Animals Lead®?

As a seasoned nurse with over two decades of experience, I've always prioritized patient-centered care, valuing the autonomy and preferences of those under my care. When I discovered the Let Animals Lead® method, I immediately resonated with its philosophy of putting animals in control of their healing journey. This alignment with my nursing principles made it a natural choice for me to incorporate into my practice.

How Does Dog Meditation Work?

During a Dog Meditation session, the practitioner, in this case, myself, serves as a conduit for universal energy, allowing it to flow to the dog. Whether in-person or remotely, the energy transcends physical barriers, enveloping the dog in a soothing and nurturing embrace. The dog is free to accept or decline the energy, and the duration of the session is entirely dictated by their comfort level.

Benefits of Dog Meditation

- Stress reduction: Dog Meditation helps alleviate anxiety and stress in dogs, promoting a sense of calm and relaxation.

- Physical healing: By stimulating the body's natural healing mechanisms, Dog Meditation can support recovery from illness or injury.

- Emotional well-being: Dogs, like humans, can experience emotional imbalances. Dog Meditation offers emotional support and fosters a deeper bond between the dog and their human companion.

Conclusion

In a world where animals are often viewed through the lens of human needs and desires, Dog Meditation stands as a beacon of respect and reverence for their autonomy. By embracing the Let Animals Lead® method, we honor the innate wisdom of our canine friends, allowing them to take an active role in their own healing. As a nurse and Reiki practitioner, I am proud to offer this gentle and compassionate approach to dog care, enriching the lives of both dogs and their human companions.

In the video below you can see part of a Dog Meditation session with Baby and Beach at Luna foundation. When I first shared Reiki energy with them, they were very scared. Pretty soon they became more relaxed. Now they quickly settle down when I start to meditate.
